The Big Bend Continuum of Care (BBCoC) is gearing up for our annual 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, and we’re calling on community members, partner agencies, service providers, and volunteers to help us conduct this essential effort on the week of January 26-30.
Every January, the PIT Count provides a snapshot of the individuals and families in our region who are experiencing homelessness, whether sheltered or unsheltered. While it may not be the perfect measure, it remains one of the most critical tools we use to secure federal funding, guide local strategy, and ensure our community understands the real scope of need in the Big Bend.
Funding: Accurate data strengthens our applications for federal and state resources that directly support housing, services, and outreach.
Planning: The count helps us identify trends, allocate resources, and improve our region’s coordinated response to homelessness.
Visibility: Every person counted represents a life that matters – and a reminder of why this work is so essential.
We rely on the dedication of trained volunteers each year to survey individuals experiencing homelessness across Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, and Liberty counties. Volunteers can help in several ways:
Field Surveying: Work alongside outreach staff to conduct interviews and gather essential data.
Logistics & Support: Assist with supply stations, coordination hubs, or administrative tasks.
Agency Collaboration: Partner agencies can help ensure their program participants are counted accurately and confidentially.
All volunteers will receive training, access to the survey tools, and a plenty of snacks.
Registration is now open (application below) and will remain available until slots are filled. Details and sign-up links will be posted on the BBCoC website and shared across our partner networks.
The PIT Count isn’t just a requirement; it’s an opportunity for our community to stand united in recognizing and responding to homelessness. When we count accurately, we plan smarter. When we plan smarter, we serve better.
More information, including volunteer training dates, supply pickup, and county-by-county deployment details, will be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, and get ready to make an impact in 2026.
